[ she is not yet settled. she is in the home of her dead husband, he who never made it back. there's a sense of emptiness in that. a wrongness in being here when it should be him, where he ought to have been. still, jeyne endures silently, as always.the knock to the door bids her rise from her sewing, move to the door and wonder who it is.
jeyne opens the door, stares at jon with a small smile, ( she tries. she does. ) her eyes somehow are able to be expectant and humble at the same time. ]
Oh. [ that takes her by surprise. it's true, by no means was jeyne always warm. she was in the one place she'd never expected to be. the cold. still, she blinks out of her stupor, and bows her head. ] I would. Thank you for them. [ she reaches with one hand, feels the furs with a small smile. they are quite soft. ]
[is that right? he isn't used to being thanked...he hefts them a bit and inclines his head towards the bed, asking her if he can come in and set them down.]
[ she nods easily, there's no harm in that. when the door is closed she feels a bit better, as it is a large bed and there is a wrongness to it. lady catelyn's bed, who she prays is with her husband now.
I assure you, it is no trouble at all. I am already indebted to you. [ and she is. he's taken her and eleyna in as he has, perhaps he feels it's duty for his fallen brother, for robb--(someday it will not hurt to think of him. perhaps. ) and she's grateful for it. ]
I fare well. It is..cold, but I had always imagined it to be so. [ a rueful little smile ] Eleyna is fond of the snow.
[he frowns a bit. this winter has been much harsher than his last, but even so, winterfell is a place of refuge. even now the boltons' treachery yet plagues them.]
The stones hold the heat of the springs better than the air does.
[he stands up to gently guide her hand to the wall. he had thought that she would have discovered this on her own by now, but it is hardly intuitive, to someone who did not know winterfell. it occurs to him that in their embarrassment over the state of the castle and their eagerness to see it repaired, there was much they did not tell jeyne. he ducks his head, sheepish.]
[ it's a small lie, but it's meant well. kindly. she knows jon worries for her, for eleyna and their wellbeing, in his own way. he is good, they are all good. she's a bit surprised when he reaches for her hand, her palm going to the wall in surprise at his words. ]
[ jon snow is too sad, much of the time. we are both too sad, jeyne thinks, and feels his thumb ghost over her muscles. there's a flush to her cheeks, mild and soft as she speaks: ]
It is no trouble. You have much to do. I wish I could provide better help.
[he wants to tell her how much he appreciates the work that she does, how vital it is, but he cannot think of a way to do it that does not bring to mind all the deaths that lie between them.]
Your help has been sorely appreciated. There are many here who owe their lives to your skill.
